Moorsweb is an innovative provider of rural broadband services to households and businesses across several dales in the North Yorkshire Moors.  Moorsweb operate a wide area wireless network connected, via a fibre gateway, to the public internet.

Barry’s company Farndale Free Range Ltd, has been the Operator of Moorsweb since it began in 2006.  The network has just under 300 subscribers and covers areas such as Bransdale, Farndale, and Rosedale, high up in the North Yorkshire Moors.

Signa Technologies run by Martyn and Julie Boswell, today finalised the agreement, with the blessing of Moors Web Link, the committee that are the guardians of the network, to become the new Operator of the network.

Martyn Boswell, Signa’s managing director said “I have worked with Barry on Moorsweb in one capacity or another, over the last 10 years, as the network grew into what it is today.  I am absolutely delighted that we have been given this opportunity to continue running the network from Barry, to continue to provide a reliable and fast service to its members across the Moor.

Julie Boswell, operations director continued “Barry has left us big shoes to fill as he has been the local champion for the communities, getting the network from its lowly beginnings of running via satellite links, to now having robust fibre backhaul and establishing Next Generation Access (NGA) status in some of the remotest parts of North Yorkshire.  No mean feat!”

Barry Sunley stated “I feel like it is the right time to slow down from the day-to-day running of the network and spend some time with family and pursuing more leisurely activities.  But the customers can rest assured that I won’t be disappearing immediately, as we have agreed a handover period and I will stay on as a contractor for a couple of days a week to complete installs and any upgrades needed, so it means there will still be a familiar face around.”

Barry continues “the customers and committee are in good hands as Martyn and Julie has helped Moorsweb on numerous occasions and been very helpful in advising us on how to get the best out of the network over the years.”

In terms of the brand of Moorsweb, the name will remain the same and Moors Web Link will continue to serve the interests of the community.

Martyn stated “We will build on the solid foundation that Barry has provided and take the network to the next level as demand and technology progresses.  This is a very exciting time for us all and we look forward to meeting many of Moorsweb’s loyal customers in the coming months”.
